Which CNC Router to buy? This is a question we get asked almost every day. It is also a very important question to ask yourself and your CNC provider.
We offer 3 main ranges of CNC router, each offering their own strengths and weakness over each other. Our ranges include:

A CNC Router is a big investment for any business and you have to get your purchase right.
A small business just starting out may only need to purchase one of our Spartan CNC routers however you also have to look at other factors:
Do you require a 3-year warranty? All of our Spartan CNC routers come complete with an on-site 12-month warranty that includes parts and labour. If you wanted a machine with a longer warranty you really need to be looking at the Piranha Pro and above.
Will you be processing soft metals? If your business has a requirement to process soft metals such as aluminium and brass, you need a machine with a coolant spray system to keep the material and tooling lubricated for the very best finish. In this instance one of our Piranha Pro CNC routers would be of benefit to your business as this is a standard item.
Manual tool change? Quick release tooling? Automatic tool change? Another important point to consider when looking to purchase a CNC router, is how will you be changing your tooling for each profile path. As standard our Spartan range all come as manual tool change meaning you will have to use a set of spindle spanners to change tools when your job requires a different type of cut. This generally is not a problem when you are only using one or two tools in your project.
When this does become a slight problem is when your project requires 3 or 4 tools (sometimes even more) and you have multiple panels to produce. To get around this issue you could opt for one of our Piranha Pro range with Quick Release (QR) spindles that are based on the same principle as an ATC but without a carousel change system. You have a button on the side of the spindle casing that allows you to change the tool chuck (same used in our ATC machines). This tooling method would allow you to quickly change tools by hand but the machine would still be required to stop for you to do so.
If you want more automation when producing your projects, we would suggest one of our Piranha Pro X Auto Tool Change CNC routers. This machine is built for higher production and will automatically change tools for each separate tool path in your project. These machines are also built with high performance HSD spindles in a 9.0kW configuration and are suitable for a huge range of materials and applications. They are also servo drive driven for more intense cnc routing applications.
Extra features and addons. One last thing we can look at what options can you upgrade to when purchasing one of our CNC range?
Piranha Pro CNC’s are configurable with the following options. CCD camera recognition systems for picking up pre-printed reg marks on your panels thus enabling the machine to cut along a cut path just by recognising the marks on your file. As discussed previously, Quick Release Spindles allow you to change your tooling much faster than a manual tool change system. One of the other benefits of this QR system are the fact that you also get the spindle configured in a 7.5kW format. We can even configure your machine with an Oscillating Blade Cutting System for thinner materials such as HIPS, cardboard, paper and printed media, leather, foams and much more.
